As we convert to a brand-spankin’ new WordPress Multisite installation, you might notice a few domain redirection things going on. When we’re all set up and running all of our links should be back to square one. In the meantime, please “pardon our dust” as the saying goes.

Why are we doing this? There are two main reasons.

This saves all of our clients money by allowing us to update and maintain the WordPress software for every site with only one set of files.

We can ensure that all sites are working the same way by making sure that the same core set of plugins are present for every site we create.

If you are an existing customer of Three Point Design, there should be no noticeable change in the way that you administer your site. We’re working hard to put back all of the widgets, options and files right where we found them.

Thanks for your patience. Leave us a comment if you have any concerns.

Two months into official operation, and our client count now exceeds the number of fingers on one hand! Yeah, I know it’s a little less than impressive especially when looking in comparison to other design companies out there. But, hey, everyone has got to start someplace!

Sadly, however, it means that our grand opening sale at the super-discounted rate of 50% off for life has concluded. I would like to personally thank the following five business for the opportunity to prove that simple websites can be cost effective and still look good!

Le Commis Catering (under construction, www.lecommiscatering.com)

Phoenix CPR Associates (www.phxcpr.com)

Riley Rae Music (www.rileyraemusic.com)

Desert Discount Pools (comming soon)

Timon Harper Photography (comming soon)

I am thrilled to report that two new businesses have chosen to have their web sites redone by Three Point Design!

The first is a fantastic local catering company called Le Commis Catering, started by Chef Mark Ferguson and Chef Christopher Benge. Their initial site was created using a free website service which really limited the ways in which they could make their business grow. The relaunch of the site will bring a renewed focus on the food which they bring to the table, rather than on the story of the chefs themselves.

Our second client saves lives, one compression at a time. Phoenix CPR Associates, owned by Jim Frasier, has been teaching people the A-B-C’s of CPR for the last 10 years. They have outgrown their Google site and are looking for a complete rebranding of their electronic presence.

Both of these small businesses took advantage of our current 50% off for life sale, which I am extending to our first five clients.

Updates, including before and after photos and some other details will follow soon.

I’ve heard a ton of good things about the experience of attending a WordCamp for WordPress users. And, as luck would have it, there’s one rolling into town in January 2011. There are still approx 25 tickets available for the event at a discounted rate of $25 each. So, if you haven’t registered already, now is the time to do so!

According to the official site for WordCamp Phoenix 2011:

The point of WordCamps is to celebrate this open tool by teaching people how to use WordPress, how to bend it to their will, and even how to leverage it as a business- and to do it all for about the price of lunch.

WordCamp is organized and run by unpaid volunteers, underwritten by sponsors, and profit free. Remaining funds are donated to local charities. Volunteers in any city can create a WordCamp to benefit their community and in Phoenix, people are particularly passionate about WordPress.

So, if you are a fellow developer or WordPress user, and you’re located within the Valley of the Sun, I’m looking forward to meeting and networking with you all!

We are always faced with the challenge of integrating our customer’s content with various other ways to market their product. It’s easy enough to do this with a plug-in or two, and there is certainly no lack of them from which to choose.

But if the design elements of the plug-in you are using do not conform to the overall design plan, why not just use a simple link to your icon of choice from the page? You will typically simplify the process for your reader by doing this, and gain a few other benefits as well.

Readers are more likely to connect with the social media extension of it is styled the same as the parent site.

Readers are more likely to actually see the link or links if they are not styled the same as they are on other sites.

Some plug-ins require calls to other sites for their graphics and tracking. This can drastically slow down your site.

With that in mind, I located a good resource for the basic syntax of some of these links. I’m pouring through a book written by WordPress guru Thord Daniel Hedengren, or TDH as he is known in the industry. His book Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog has listed a few of the direct links to some of the more popular social media outlets. I’m using them as a jumping off point.

I hope you’ll find the reference useful. Happy coding.
